For those of you new to RP, I HIGHLY recommend reading this post. This will teach you some of the basics to RP as well as help you understand how we work the different RP channels within SoA.

DEFINITIONS:

RP: stands for Role Play. Roleplaying is when you assume the role of your character and collaboratively create stories for him/her. For instance, Prima is a holy priest and I RP her as such. She's the peacekeeper, very classy and sometimes even prissy, a vegetarian, a one-man kind of woman, and all around good-hearted. Cozmyk, on the other hand, carries herself with no kind of class whatsoever, is usually a bitch, unless she thinks she can get you in the sack for the night, and loves no one but herself. These are the kind of things you should think about when RPing your character. Is your toon nice or mean? Where did your toon come from? (meaning city he/she was born in & how were they raised) What kind of hobbies do they have and what kind of animals or food do they like, if any? This is what roleplaying your character out is all about.

IC:stands for "In Character". Being in character means that you are playing your toon as they would act if WoW was a real world. You pretend that WoW is the real world around you and that you are your toon.

OOC: stands for "Out Of Character". This means you're just your regular 'ol you, not your toon. You're talking as you normally would.

GENERAL RULES TO FOLLOW WHEN RPING:

1) ANYTHING said in /say should ALWAYS be IC! If not, you MUST put the double parenthesis around it! For example, you come across someone in Org who is an enchanter and you ask them in /say to enchant your weapon. Is should be done like this: ((Hey, could you please enchant my mace for me? I have the mats)). Of course, I rarely break character (meaning I almost always stay IC), so I would ask someone like this: "Pardon me, MiLady? I hear you're a fine enchanter! I have some materials on me, if you by chance have a moment to upgrade my mace here for me with one of your great enchants?" Of course, it doesn't have to be that long, but you get the idea.

2) NOTHING should EVER be abbreviated IC! "Lol", "Rofl", "lmao", "y not", "r u ok?" ....abbreviations like this are NOT okay to use in RP! They are considered OOC as a general rule and roleplayers will think you are OOC by using these. This goes for /say, guild chat, and officer chat! All of those are RP/IC and you should never use abbreviations in any of them. You MUST type it out or do it as an emote to keep it IC! If the person is right next to you, then target them and type "/laugh" instead of "lol".

3) Actions should always be put into astericks. If you say something after an action, make sure to put quotation marks around what is actually being said. For example let's say Prima heads to the kitchen in guild RP to start cooking dinner. I would type it out in guild like this: *Prima heads to the kitchen to prepare dinner for the Symphony. Once in the kitchen, she looks up and asks* "Hey, Roasted Clefthoof sound good for everyone tonight?" Here's a couple of other examples. *Prima giggles as she watches the cat chase it's tail* "Silly cat!". *Cozmyk walks down the hallway, looking half awake. Her hair is a mess, and her make-up smudged. She begins to grumble something as she takes a seat at the dining room table* "Boy I must have drank more than usual last night." I have known other RPers to also put lesser than/greater than signs around their actions as well. This is also acceptable. For instance: < Prima heads to the kitchen to make dinner >. Actions put into astericks like this are mainly used for guild chat so that it's easier for others to decifer between actions and words.

4) ALWAYS introduce yourself by your name! Also, NEVER call anyone by their name until they have introduced themselves! Technically, you wouldn't know someone's name until they have told you. I know it's easy to look above their head and see their name and guild, but in the real world, as it would be if you were really your toon in WoW as well, people don't actually have names above their head, so NEVER call someone by their name until they have told you! The same goes for guilds too. If a person is not wearing their guild tabard, you wouldn't know what guild they are in! The only exception to this is guildmates. Of course, if you are in the same guild together, and obviosuly share a guild home with that person, then you could get away with not having to introduce yourselves as it would make sense that you 2 already know each other, being in the same guild. Me, personally, I still RP it out when meeting a new guildy in person, and still introduce myself, but that is about the only exception to this rule.

SYMPHONY OF AGONY'S ROLEPLAYING RULES:

1) Guildchat is set in the setting of a guild home, also sometimes called the "hall" or the "Hold". Everyone has their own idea in their mind of how it looks, but keep in mind, it's quite luxiurous, especially for medeival times. When you first walk in, you walk into a large living room. In the living room there are several chairs and a sofa. there is also a large fireplace. There is a hallway with several bedrooms on each side and each member of the Symphony has their own room. There is a kitchen, a library, an alchemist lab, and engineering lab, an anvil and forge outside, and an outhouse outside.

2) Anything in /say, guildchat or officer chat should ALWAYS be IC! Even if you're dealing with someone in a city that's not in SoA, keep /say IC unless you put the double parenthesis around it! By wearing our tabard and by having our guildname over your head, you are representing an RP guild. Therefore, it is required that you stay IC when saying anything in /say to anyone anywhere unless you use the double parenthesis!

3) Our OOC chat (/join SoAooc in-game) is the ONLY place you can talk OOC! If you prefer to stay in this channel until you get the hang of RPing more, that is perfectly fine.

4) Officer chat is ONLY to be used as the communication channel. When you first join, Cozmyk meets with you to give you the "device" that allows you to speak with other guildmembers no matter where you are! Although it could be done, try to avoid actions in astericks here as this is like a walkie-talkie type of channel so others typically wouldn't "hear" an action. Although you could RP it out kind of like this: *Cozmyk's blades can be heard slicing and dicing away through what sounds like ogres* "I will have every one of your heads, you scum!" This channel is great for RPing out a quest you may be doing or asking other members IC for help, or for when you're getting ganked as well. The whole reason for the "device" and for this channel is so that you can RP no matter where you are or what you are doing. This way, you're not confined to just the one sport of the guild home in guild chat.

Please try to keep in mind that WoW takes place back in medeival times. So try to keep your RP realistic with that in mind. Immenities would depend on where you are at. For instance, electricity is generated in Undercity as engineers use it as well, however there is no electricity in Orgrimaar or Thunderbluff. Running water is iffy since Silvermoon has fountains so just be careful with that one. As stated above, there is an outhouse outside as restrooms back then were not built inside the homes.

If you have ANY questions at all on any of this, or, if I may have forgotten something here, please feel free to post a reply here or ask in-game in the OOC channel.

Thank you SO much! This really helped me a lot!

I also went to this site: http://wow.stratics.com/content/features/rpg101/

It's kind of long, but it makes sense to a rp newcomer like myself Smile
